Cyberattack on Latvian Government Websites

image

On Thursday, October 2, Latvia experienced a significant DDoS attack that affected the functionality of numerous government internet portals. According to Delfi, referencing the LETA agency, disruptions were noted in the State Revenue Service, the administrative services portal Latvija.lv, and various ministry and local government sites.
Users were also unable to access the electronic signature site eParaksts.lv.
By midday, the affected government sites began to be restored, as reported by representatives of LVRTC. They indicated that some web pages were down for about an hour, while others remained slow for approximately one hour and twenty minutes. Although certain resources became accessible, their performance was notably sluggish.
Investigations into the causes of the attack are ongoing. After the analysis is complete, LVRTC pledges to provide further insights into this cyber incident. It is noted that LVRTC is cooperating with Cert.lv to determine the actual reasons behind the attack.
Since the introduction of mandatory reporting of cyber incidents affecting critical infrastructure, Switzerland has recorded 164 incidents in the past six months.
