According to local police, officers were called to the Heaton Park Jewish community synagogue at 09:31 AM after a witness reported that a car had hit pedestrians and one man had been stabbed.
In response to reports of a guard being stabbed, armed officers were dispatched to the scene. Shortly after, Manchester police declared a "serious incident".
"At 09:38 AM, armed officers from Greater Manchester Police opened fire, and one man believed to be the suspect was shot," a police spokesperson stated.
