The government has quickly mobilized agencies to search for survivors and restore power and water supplies.
According to Jane Abapo, an information officer from the regional civil defense office, the confirmed death toll of 69 was based on data from the Cebu provincial emergency management office, pending further verification. Another official reported that more than 150 individuals sustained injuries.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. assured survivors that assistance would be provided, stating that cabinet ministers were on-site to oversee the relief operations and expressed condolences to those who lost loved ones.
Cebu, a popular tourist destination in the Philippines, is home to 3.4 million residents.
