Turkey and the United States have established a partnership in the field of nuclear energy by signing a memorandum during the recent meeting between the presidents of both nations at the White House. Energy Minister of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, shared this news in a post on social media platform X.
“We have initiated a new phase that will further deepen our extensive partnership with the United States in nuclear energy. Following the meeting (of the presidents - ed.), we signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding strategic cooperation in civil nuclear energy,” Bayraktar stated.
The minister noted that the signing occurred in the presence of both presidents and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He expressed hope that the outcomes of this agreement would be mutually beneficial for both countries in the near future.
During the visit to the USA, Turkey's state energy company BOTAŞ signed two agreements for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Turkey. One agreement with the global energy group Mercuria is set for a 20-year term, supplying approximately 4 billion cubic meters of LNG annually starting in 2026. The second agreement is with global energy company Woodside Energy for LNG supply from an American field in Louisiana, commencing in 2030.
