On the morning of September 25, Aalborg Airport in Denmark, which serves commercial and military flights, was shut down for several hours due to drones detected in its airspace. According to Reuters, this was confirmed by the Danish national police.
The North Jutland police reported that «multiple drones» were spotted flying near Aalborg Airport with their lights on. The drones lingered in the area for approximately three hours. Authorities noted that these drones operated similarly to those that halted flights at Copenhagen Airport a few days earlier.
Police assured that passengers at Aalborg Airport and local residents were not at risk, though three flights were redirected to other airports.
Authorities stated they were unable to identify the type of drones and whether they were the same as those seen over Copenhagen on Monday, and they reported that attempts to disable the drones had failed, with no suspects apprehended.
«It is too early to discuss the purpose of the drones and who is behind this», a police spokesperson said.
Later, police reported that drones were also observed near airports in the Danish cities of Esbjerg, Sonderborg, and Skridstrup, the latter being home to an airbase for F-16 and F-35 fighter jets.
The Danish Armed Forces stated they are assisting local and national police in the investigation but declined to comment further.
Additionally, Copenhagen International Airport halted all incoming and outgoing flights on the night of September 23 due to the sighting of 2-3 large drones nearby. Danish police and the Security and Intelligence Service (PET) stated on Tuesday that this is a «very serious situation» and an investigation is underway, as reported by The Guardian. Authorities believe that the drones were likely operated by an «experienced operator».
