On Monday, some areas of Milan experienced flooding, while the province of Como suffered landslides, as the Lombardy region was hit hard by a wave of heavy rain sweeping across northern Italy. This was reported by ANSA.
Significant flooding occurred in the Niguarda area of Milan, where the Seveso River overflowed its banks. Additionally, the provinces of Monza and Varese suffered severe damage.
Firefighters responded to numerous emergency situations caused by extreme weather conditions in the Lombardy region, according to the report.
Scientists state that the climate crisis, driven by greenhouse gas emissions from human activities, leads to increased intensity and frequency of extreme weather events, including heatwaves, droughts, severe storms, and floods.
Despite the presence of many sources of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming, the main factor is the burning of fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal, which generates enormous profits for global energy companies.
