Increase in Chinese Military Activity Near Taiwan

The Ministry of Defense of Taiwan has noted a significant rise in military activity from China in the vicinity of the island – over the past day, the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) dispatched 57 aircraft of various types and 10 naval vessels to Taiwan.

This is mentioned in the daily report from Taiwan’s defense ministry posted on social media platform X.

Notably, 38 Chinese aircraft, including fighters, bombers, support aircraft, and drones, crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, the unofficial border between the mainland and the island, and approached the northern, central, southwestern, and eastern air defense zones of Taiwan, posing a risk to the island from all directions.

The majority of the incursions by PLA combat aviation, 31 instances, were recorded from the most densely populated central part of the island, facing the mainland.

Furthermore, Taiwan officials assured that there were no violations of the island's airspace or incursions into adjacent maritime areas by Chinese military forces, and Taiwanese defense forces were closely monitoring the situation and responded appropriately.

The Ministry of Defense of Taiwan regularly observes the activity of 12-15 aircraft and vessels from the PLA near the island, which conduct joint training exercises simulating various elements of potential military actions against Taiwan (air and sea attacks, blockade establishment, etc.).

However, such maneuvers involving dozens of Chinese aircraft and ships were last recorded three weeks ago, on July 17, when the Taiwanese military conducted large-scale exercises named “Han Kuang,” aimed at repelling a possible invasion by Chinese forces.

Although Taiwan has never been part of the PRC and has been governed by its own administration since 1949, the communist leadership in China considers the island its province, threatening to use military force for “reunification” with the mainland. The daily displays of military power and their demonstrative training in operations against Taiwan are part of China's pressure tactics to compel the Taiwanese to accept Beijing’s control over the self-governing island.
