A tragic event unfolded in a prestigious Manhattan skyscraper when a man with an assault rifle killed four people, including a police officer, before taking his own life.
This was reported by CNN and CNBC.
According to New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the shooter, 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, burst into a 44-story building on Park Avenue with an M4 assault rifle and immediately opened fire, killing a police officer and two men.
He then took the elevator to the floor where the Ruden Building Management company is located and shot a woman there.
"After he shot the officer, he then shot a woman who had tried to hide behind a column and walked through the lobby firing his guns," Tisch said.
Then Tamura "walked down the hallway and shot himself in the chest," she added.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated in a video address that there were "many injuries" as a result of the shooting.
According to the police commissioner, Tamura traveled across the country in three days and arrived in New York shortly before the shooting occurred.
Information from Las Vegas authorities indicated that Tamura had documented mental health issues.
"His motives are under investigation, and we are working to understand why he chose this location," Tisch said.
