A tragic event occurred in India when an Air India plane crashed shortly after takeoff. Onboard were over 50 British citizens and 7 Portuguese nationals en route to London.

According to the airline's statement, flight AI171, which departed from Ahmedabad, met with disaster just 5 minutes after takeoff, crashing in a residential area.

There were 242 people on board, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 1 Canadian, and 7 Portuguese.

Emergency services are currently transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.

Air India has emphasized its full cooperation with authorities investigating the incident.
