Details: The Leuven prosecutor's office stated that the teenager confessed after a lengthy interrogation, revealing that he inflicted fatal wounds on his mother and 6-year-old sister before setting their home ablaze.
The young man will appear before a juvenile court soon due to his minor status.
It is important to note that the incident occurred on June 6, when a fire broke out in the Ukrainian family's residence. Investigators found the bodies of a woman and her child, both with knife wounds. The older son was at school during the incident.
The family had arrived in Belgium at the onset of the full-scale war, and another adult daughter currently resides in Ireland. The father serves in the military.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has taken this case under special control through its embassy in Belgium.
