The Swedish government is launching a new initiative to honor volunteers who provide crucial support to Ukraine.
This announcement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden.
Sweden's government to recognize volunteers for their aid to Ukraine
“The government has announced a call for nominations for a new annual award aimed at recognizing non-governmental Swedish initiatives for Ukraine. This year, the award will be given to a Swedish organization as well as an individual or group that has carried out extraordinary projects for Ukraine. The laureate will also receive funding to continue their efforts”, − states the press release.
The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that support for Ukraine is more important now than ever, and the government’s commitment continues to grow.
“Recently, the government presented the largest packages of civilian and military support to date. All of Sweden supports Ukraine, including volunteer initiatives. The government wants to highlight, recognize, and support these efforts with a new award”, − the statement notes.
Individuals, businesses, NGOs, municipalities, higher education institutions, and many others who have demonstrated remarkable dedication to supporting Ukraine will be eligible for the government award.
By the directive of the Swedish government, the Swedish Institute has been tasked with establishing and administering the award. The names of this year's laureates will be announced later.
The winning organization will receive a monetary prize of approximately 1.8 million Swedish kronor, while an individual or group of individuals who win will receive up to 200,000 Swedish kronor.
This funding is intended to allow laureates to continue and expand their projects aimed at aiding Ukraine.
“Choosing the winners of this award will not be easy. So many strong individuals in our society have initiated numerous projects for Ukraine. By showcasing these exceptional examples, the government, along with the Swedish Institute, hopes to inspire continued and broader volunteer involvement for Ukraine”, – emphasized Benjamin Dusa, the Minister for International Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Sweden.
