Belgium and Turkey have announced their decision to join the international drone coalition for Ukraine, led by Latvia and the United Kingdom.
This information was shared by the Latvian Ministry of Defense following a summit dedicated to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
According to Latvian officials, all coalition members have committed to allocate at least 2.75 billion euros by the end of 2025 for the procurement of drones and support of Ukraine’s defense forces.
As of the end of May this year, coalition countries have already contributed approximately 180 million euros to the joint fund.
These funds will be used for both centralized drone procurement for Ukrainian needs and for implementing national support measures for Ukraine by each participating country.
“The international drone coalition is growing stronger — we will be able to supply more drones to Ukraine while simultaneously strengthening the defense industries of Latvia, the EU, and NATO. Our strength lies in unity, so the addition of new allies to the coalition will allow us to provide Ukraine with much-needed support in its fight against the aggressor,” concluded Latvia’s Minister of Defense Andris Spruds.
The drone coalition allocated 20 million euros for UAVs for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The drone coalition allocated 20 million euros for the procurement of tactical reconnaissance drones for Ukraine’s defense forces.
During the first year of its operation, the coalition raised 176 million euros in the joint fund through contributions from member states.
This fund is used to organize tenders aimed at seeking and implementing innovative technological solutions to gain an advantage on the battlefield.
The coalition successfully conducted two international tenders. As a result of the first, five suppliers of FPV drones will deliver 30,000 units of equipment to Ukraine within six months.
On September 18, it became known that Ukrainian manufacturers of unmanned systems will be able to participate in tenders organized by the drone coalition within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format.
The “drone coalition” officially started operating on February 17 within the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
