On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced new initiatives aimed at modernizing nuclear technology and improving scientific standards.

The initiatives focus on the "revitalization of nuclear energy" and the implementation of "new standards in science".

According to reports, the signed initiatives allow for testing advanced nuclear reactor designs in Department of Energy laboratories, pave the way for nuclear facilities to be built on federal lands, and require the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to issue licenses promptly.

Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology, stated: "We are rebuilding a strong nuclear industry, creating a safe and sovereign fuel supply chain, leading the nation into a future powered by American nuclear energy".

Additionally, Trump signed an order to implement "new standards in science". This pertains to the introduction of scientific practice principles based on transparency, openness to criticism and review, as well as avoiding conflicts of interest.

This order purportedly "restores public trust in science".

Specifically, the White House noted: "The order defines the new standard in science and requires federal research agencies to align their current programs and activities with these fundamental principles".

Moreover, the Trump administration urges all American researchers and academic institutions to return to the basics by reinstating the "new standard in science".
