Zelensky and Carney: A New Chapter in Ukraine-Canada Relations

President Volodymyr Zelensky reached out to newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to congratulate him on his surprising victory and to discuss critical issues such as sanctions against Russia and Ukraine's air defense. Canada currently chairs the G7, and we examined our collaboration on this platform.

“I just spoke with Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, and congratulated him on his victory. I am confident that our relations with Canada will remain strong. Canada is now chairing the G7, and I appreciate the willingness to work together,” Zelensky stated.

The President invited Carney to visit Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of Canada's leadership in upholding international law.

“We discussed sanctions against Russia and agreed that strong sanctions are still necessary. We also talked about air defense for Ukraine,” he added.

Some time ago, many analysts expected Carney's Liberal Party to suffer a defeat against the Conservative Party. However, the situation has shifted.

The aggressive trade actions taken by U.S. President Donald Trump against Canada changed the political landscape, and the left-leaning coalition achieved an unexpected victory.
