In Washington, there is unfortunately a lack of serious discussions regarding continued support for Ukraine, despite the expiration of the previous aid package approved during Joe Biden's presidency.

Details: Members of Congress who advocate for Ukraine indicate that although the current military and financial support established in the last months of Biden's presidency is nearing its end, there are virtually no serious negotiations about a new aid package in Washington.

Direct quote: "European officials state that they have not even received assurances that the United States will continue to provide Ukraine with critical intelligence that is essential for striking Russian forces".

Details: The publication also highlights that when the White House discusses its relationship with Ukraine, it typically focuses more on what it is receiving rather than what it plans to give.

Following the Oval Office discussions, the United States and Ukraine are reassessing their agreement on American investments and access to Ukrainian resources.

One example mentioned is the agreement concerning access to Ukraine's strategic natural resources, which is currently under active consideration. It took nearly 6 weeks to rewrite the document that was never signed before.

Direct quote: "The agreement that Trump is truly seeking is one with Russia. But to achieve that, Ukraine must be bypassed – either by announcing a ceasefire or simply sidelining the issue".

Background:

  • The US presented its proposals to European allies for establishing a "peace agreement" between Russia and Ukraine, which includes easing sanctions against the RF in the event of a prolonged ceasefire.
  • Earlier on Friday, April 18, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump would abandon attempts to forge a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine if there were no clear signs that it could be achieved.
