In Moldova, an investigation has commenced regarding the asset declarations of Eugenia Gutsul, the head of the Gagauzia region, due to her involvement in the case of financing the "Shor" party.
This was reported by Newsmaker, as cited by "European Truth".
The National Integrity Authority (ANI) has initiated the investigation based on a complaint filed on March 27.
The complaint alleged that Gutsul's declarations may indicate violations. Notably, significant monetary gifts for her family celebrations drew attention. Specifically, she received 23 thousand euros and 220 thousand Moldovan lei in 2023, and 4000 euros and 170 thousand lei in 2024. There is also an inconsistency noted, as Gutsul has owned her residence since 2019 but resides in her sister's apartment.
Inspectors will check for any unjustified discrepancies between the head's income and expenses, as well as the legality of the funds declared as gifts from private individuals.
It should be noted that last week, the court changed Gutsul's preventive measure and placed her under house arrest.
Eugenia Gutsul is a subject of a criminal case in Moldova, which will be heard in court starting April 2024. She is accused of systematically bringing money from Russia to Moldova to finance the political activities of the "Shor" party while working as the party's secretary from 2019 to 2022. The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office of Moldova also accuses her of coordinating the activities of certain party offices.
