On the night of January 20, Kyiv was targeted by drone strikes from Russia, leading to power and water outages in the city. Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the Kyiv City State Administration reported this.
Klitschko noted that one person was injured in the Dnipro district, where medical teams were dispatched.
He later reported hits on non-residential buildings in the Dnipro district and mentioned UAV debris falling in open areas, which caused vehicles to catch fire.
Power and water outages were noted on the left bank of the city, with social infrastructure switched to autonomous power sources.
The left bank of Kyiv was primarily hit, with damages recorded in three districts, as shown by police:
- In the Dnipro district, the shockwave damaged a high-rise building, injuring a 59-year-old resident. About 20 cars were damaged by debris.
- In the Darnytsia district, windows and a fence of a private house were damaged.
- In the Desnyan district, UAV debris fell in a cemetery.
Following the attack, over 5.6 thousand high-rise buildings in Kyiv were left without heating, reported Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
“After this attack, 5635 high-rise buildings are without heat. Almost 80% of them are buildings that had their heating restored since January 9,” Klitschko clarified.
He reminded that after the January 9 strike, 6000 buildings were left without heating, with 16 of them still lacking heat as of yesterday.
Due to the complex energy situation caused by the strikes, changes have been made to the metro train schedules in Kyiv.
Train services on the red line resumed between the “Akademmistechko” and “Arsenalna” stations. The interval of trains is 4:30-5:00 minutes.
To transport passengers from the left bank to the right bank after the alarm, two trains will run between the “Livoberezhna” and “Arsenalna” stations, considering the current electricity supply situation. The estimated interval will be around 20-25 minutes.
Trains passing by the “Hydropark” and “Dnipro” stations will run without stops.
Train movement on the green line during air alarms starts between the “Syrets” and “Vydubychi” stations (interval - about 07:00 minutes), and between the “Osokorky” and “Chervonyi Khutir” stations (interval - 10:00 minutes)
Train movement on the blue line remains unchanged.
