The complete identification of about 6,000 bodies of fallen Ukrainian defenders, handed over by Russia, could take 13 to 14 months.
This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Igor Klymenko, during a national telethon.
Duration of Identification of 6000 Defenders' Bodies
The Minister noted that, to date, Russia has transferred 6,060 bodies of the deceased.
“I can only make a rough estimate of the situation, as the analysis is still ongoing – regarding the condition of the remains and how many are actually in the packages provided by the Russian side. However, according to our specialists' preliminary estimates, at least 13 to 14 months will be needed for the identification of these approximately 6,000 bodies,” said Igor Klymenko.
He also emphasized that this timeframe is the minimum required to conduct full identification of all repatriated bodies.
According to him, to complete this complex and crucial task as quickly as possible, all relevant services – forensic examinations, expert units, and investigators – are working in three shifts.
