A new deputy chair of the Accessibility Committee has been appointed in the capital. Hennadiy Yevseyev, president of the All-Ukrainian Public Organization of People with Visual Impairments, has taken this role. This was announced by Lesya Petrivska, the Commissioner of the Kyiv City Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
“The Accessibility Committee has two deputy chairs – one from the city administration and one from public organizations. Cooperation among the authorities, experts, and the community is crucial for making decisions related to accessibility. We are prepared for constructive collaboration,” emphasized Lesya Petrivska during the meeting.
During the session, members also discussed the response from the Ministry of Community Development regarding the safety standards for pedestrian crossings. Relevant services will explore the possibility of implementing experimental solutions in Kyiv.
Additionally, the heads of accessibility committees from district administrations reported on their activities in 2023 and provided information on the accessibility levels of the capital’s districts.
Lesya Petrivska added that Kyiv, as the capital, should not only meet modern standards of accessibility but also serve as an example for other cities in Ukraine.
“The Accessibility Committee is working towards making Kyiv more inclusive. We must not only evaluate the situation but also identify issues and seek joint solutions to improve infrastructure accessibility. We are actively involving experts and the public in all processes, as together we can address challenges more effectively,” she added.
The committee's work includes Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration for self-governance issues and responsibility for accessibility in Kyiv, Marina Honda, city council deputies, and representatives of the public.
