At a recent meeting of the Coordination Council of the Kyiv Scientific and Innovation Cluster, participants discussed the current challenges facing the labor market in Ukraine and how to address them through scientific and educational initiatives. This was reported by the municipal scientific research institution «Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Socio-Economic Development of the City» («NDIRoM»).
«Due to the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, the labor market in Kyiv has undergone significant changes. The unstable security situation, migration of the population abroad, mobilization into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the time needed for the adaptation of internally displaced persons have led to a substantial imbalance between labor demand and supply. Therefore, educational institutions, research organizations, and businesses are ready to unite their efforts to develop educational initiatives aimed at tackling the pressing issues of unemployment,» said the director of «NDIRoM», Serhiy Pavlovskyi.
According to him, short-term and specialized training programs, retraining, and adaptation to changes in the labor market, designed for the adult population, can help reduce the number of unemployed and foster the development of new professional competencies according to the demands of the time.
The meeting also discussed the necessity for higher education institutions to participate in innovation fairs, which are expected to serve as platforms for the commercialization of scientific inventions, the creation of startups, and partnerships with businesses.
«The presentation of technological developments created in the laboratories and innovation centers will promote entrepreneurship and strengthen collaboration between science and government structures. Our goal is to create conditions under which science and education will be key drivers of regional development and improvement of the community's quality of life,» emphasized Serhiy Pavlovskyi.
Additionally, a memorandum was signed at the meeting for the accession of new participants to the Kyiv Scientific and Innovation Cluster, including the Institute of Metal Physics named after G.V. Kurdyumov of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Institute of Cybernetics named after V.M. Glushkov of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Welcoming the new members, Serhiy Pavlovskyi noted that the inclusion of such institutions strengthens the scientific and technical potential of the cluster and opens new opportunities for the implementation of interdisciplinary projects in areas such as digital medicine, urban infrastructure, and smart technologies.
It should be noted that the Kyiv Scientific and Innovation Cluster includes leading higher education institutions in the capital, including the Ukrainian State University named after Mikhail Dragomanov, Kyiv School of Economics, State Trade and Economic University, and others.
