Kyiv City Council Appeals for Support for Educators

The Kyiv City Council has reached out to the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers, urging them to ensure fair compensation for educators. This appeal received support from council members during the plenary session on October 31.

As noted by council member Boris Siklytskyi, this appeal emphasizes that low salaries and high risks, especially during martial law, pose a threat to the retention of qualified educational staff, which could adversely affect the quality of education.

«Educators play a crucial role in shaping new generations, often influencing them just as parents do. In a time when schools and universities have become safe havens and support spaces, it is essential that their work is valued appropriately. This will help retain staff within the education system and maintain educational quality. We insist on raising the salary for first-category employees to 3,600 UAH, as stipulated in the 2024 budget, and propose a new bonus system set at 30% of the salary for educators at various educational levels. Additionally, the council requests that the resolution regarding the compensation for scientific and pedagogical staff remains in effect to prevent an even greater shortage of personnel in education», said Siklytskyi.

He further added that systemic changes are needed at the state level to ensure stable salary levels in line with the country's economic standards.
