Life Sentences for Couple in Germany for Murdering Ukrainians

A court in Germany has sentenced a couple to life imprisonment for the murder of a Ukrainian woman and her mother, as well as for the attempted kidnapping of a child, DW reports.

Life Imprisonment for Murder and Child Abduction in Germany

The court stated that the couple intended to pass off one of the victims' child as their own, considering their guilt particularly severe.

This means that the possibility of parole after 15 years is virtually impossible.

However, the ruling can still be appealed.

At the beginning of the trial, the husband and wife confessed to the crime.

They murdered two Ukrainians to acquire a newborn child.

Murder of Ukrainians in Germany - Key Facts

In March of this year, near Hockenheim on the banks of the Rhine, the body of 27-year-old Margarita Razaz from Kharkiv was found. She lived in a refugee center with her mother and newborn daughter. The girl, Mia, was soon found.

Her grandmother, 51-year-old Marina Stetsenko, was initially reported missing, but later found dead in a lake near Bad Schönborn.

The suspects in the case are a 43-year-old Russian woman and a 44-year-old German man. According to investigators, they killed the child's mother and grandmother to take the child for themselves. The criminals lured the refugees with promises of help in obtaining documents in Germany.
