Celebrating Maslenitsa in Kyiv: Traditions and Festivities

image

On February 21–22, VDNH will host a vibrant Maslenitsa celebration, marking the end of the «Winter Country» project. This year, the focus will be on promoting Ukrainian folk traditions. The event aims to create a joyful atmosphere while also educating guests about ancient customs that have shaped our cultural identity.
The program will include traditional Maslenitsa rituals: singing, saying goodbye to winter, and welcoming spring.
Guests can enjoy performances by folk groups, dance masterclasses, and food courts offering traditional Ukrainian dishes like pancakes and dumplings.
A special part of the event will be a lecture series from the project «Roots», featuring a talk on «What is Maslenitsa?» and a meeting with a researcher of Ukrainian culinary culture.
The VDNH area will be adorned with colorful decorations and photo zones showcasing Ukrainian symbols. The highlight will be the ritual burning of the winter effigy.
Entry to the celebration is free, and everyone is welcome!
