Ukrainian Railways to Adjust Ticket Prices Amid Losses

Ukrainian Railways plans to implement new ticket prices for 1st class 'Intercity' and SV class cars due to financial losses. This was announced by board member Serhiy Leshchenko during his speech in parliament.
"We are looking to adjust dynamic pricing for SV class and 1st class 'Intercity' cars. This will improve the situation, although not completely," he stated.
According to reports, the net loss for Ukrainian Railways in the first nine months of 2025 amounted to 7.1 billion UAH, while losses from passenger transport in 2024 reached 18 billion UAH.
To enhance the financial situation, Leshchenko suggests internal optimization including the sale of scrap metal, which is expected to yield up to 10 billion UAH. Compensation from the state budget for passenger transport losses will be 16 billion UAH.
Additionally, he announced a gradual increase in freight tariffs in two phases: first by 27%, then by another 11%. This, considering the rising production costs, could generate around 22 billion UAH.
