In the Kyiv region, the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have apprehended a citizen from an Eastern European country, who turned out to be an agent of the Russian special services, engaged in arson at the enemy's behest.
According to the case materials, he came to the attention of the occupiers while searching for «quick earnings» after leaving the armed forces in his homeland.
After recruitment, the FSB dispatched the foreigner to Ukraine, where he settled in a rented apartment in Bila Tserkva.
Under the instructions of the Russian special service, he was to monitor and set fire to the vehicles of Ukrainian defenders.
To identify potential «targets», the perpetrator walked around the city photographing military vehicles.
The agent tracked an officer's car of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and later, during the night, poured a flammable mixture onto its hood and ignited it.
Following that, he was tasked with recruiting new agents.
The SBU arrested the agent as he was heading to Odesa to carry out another enemy assignment.
During the search, a smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with the enemy was seized.
Currently, the detained individual has been informed of suspicion on two counts of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- part 1 of article 114-1 (interference with the lawful activities of the Armed Forces and other military formations during a special period);
- part 2 of article 194 (willful destruction or damage to property committed by arson).
The perpetrator is in custody and faces up to 10 years in prison. The operation was conducted by SBU officers in Kyiv and the Kyiv region in cooperation with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Bila Tserkva District Prosecutor's Office.
