The Ukrainian government has introduced new regulations aimed at governing the gambling industry to address issues related to gaming addiction, commonly referred to as ludomania. This was announced by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
“The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a resolution that aims to safeguard individuals from gaming addiction,” stated the announcement.
The new decree includes clear definitions of pathological and problematic gambling behavior for the first time. This will enable timely intervention in players' dangerous behavioral changes before they escalate into clinical issues.
According to the decree, organizers of gambling activities are required to monitor player behavior. If signs of severe addiction are detected, the player's gaming will be halted, though winnings will still be paid out.
Additionally, organizers must block access to accounts at the player's request. Following this, account replenishment and further participation in games will be prohibited.
Moreover, players will not be allowed to engage in games without setting limits on time and spending. Organizers will be responsible for ensuring these limits are adhered to and will regularly remind players of their gaming duration and expenditures, with options to either continue or stop playing.
Furthermore, market participants will provide consultations regarding gaming addiction and inform players about the risks of ludomania and responsible gaming in venues and on websites.
