On October 27, coinciding with the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, Ukraine established a new national record for the largest mass dictation writing with sign language translation. A total of 195 individuals with hearing impairments participated from various regions across the country. This was announced by Lana Vetrova, head of the National Record Register.
The dictation event was organized by the NGO “Feel It,” which focuses on the rehabilitation and social integration of individuals with hearing impairments. The event took place at the Kyiv College of Applied Sciences.
During the writing of the Radio Dictation of National Unity, specialists provided sign language translation for participants who joined both offline and online.
“You should have seen how important this was for them – to feel this unity! I am convinced that sign language should become the second official language in a barrier-free society.
This issue is particularly pressing now as we increasingly encounter soldiers and veterans who have lost their hearing due to injuries. Knowing sign language should be normal for all of us if we want a society with values such as understanding and empathy,” highlighted Lana Vetrova.
