The Estonian firm Milrem Robotics is set to supply over 150 new THeMIS robotic systems to Ukraine. This was disclosed in the company’s official announcement.
The delivery is part of an initiative funded and coordinated by the Netherlands. A significant portion of the vehicles will be assembled in collaboration with the Dutch company VDL Defentec.
News of the THeMIS shipments emerged in September, although the collaborating country was not initially revealed. Recently, Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brakelmans joined representatives from Milrem Robotics and VDL to officially announce the agreement at the VDL factory.
"The supply will be carried out by Milrem Robotics Netherlands in close collaboration with VDL Defentec, which is establishing a specialized assembly line at its plant in Born. The assembly line is designed for scalability to increase production in line with future needs," Milrem Robotics stated.
The company will also conduct training for Ukrainian operators and maintenance staff to ensure effective use and upkeep of the THeMIS systems.
"We are honored to lead this project in partnership with the Netherlands and VDL. The THeMIS platform has already demonstrated its value in combat, and we believe this contribution will significantly enhance Ukraine's defense capabilities," said Milrem Robotics CEO Kuldar Vaarsi.
The new systems will supplement the 15 THeMIS units already operational in Ukraine since 2022, which have proven their effectiveness in combat. THeMIS is a versatile unmanned vehicle platform designed to support infantry and improve battlefield efficiency. It is part of robotics programs used in 19 countries worldwide.
