Prosecutors conducted a review of all criminal cases linked to fatal traffic accidents and severe incidents that have been under investigation for several years. As a result of this audit, seven drivers were charged. Among them is a 47-year-old driver of a Tesla vehicle, whose violation of traffic rules led to the death of a police officer. This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
The fatal accident occurred on March 2, 2023, at the intersection of Obolon Boulevard. The collision involved Tesla, Audi A7, and Toyota Camry cars. As a result of the accident, the driver and passenger of the Audi A7 sustained severe injuries, and the 22-year-old passenger later died in the hospital.
Both the injured and the deceased were police officers. Therefore, to ensure an objective investigation, the case was assigned to the investigators of the DBR in Kyiv.
More than 10 forensic examinations were conducted as part of the criminal proceedings. Based on their findings, the actions of the Tesla driver were classified under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code — violation of traffic safety rules resulting in the death of the victim. The penalty for this article ranges from 3 to 8 years in prison.
It was established that the man, while driving the Tesla, ignored traffic signals and collided at high speed with the Audi A7, which then uncontrollably crashed into the Toyota Camry. Consequently, the electric car driver was notified of the suspicion.
