In the capital of Ukraine, new emergency buttons for calling the police are being installed, allowing individuals to promptly report dangers and request law enforcement assistance.
This initiative is part of a nationwide social project implemented by the Department of Security Police.
Currently, there are over 2640 operational buttons in Kyiv, with 111 available for public use. They are located in supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, pawn shops, gas stations, public parks, underground passages, and busy streets.
“Pressing the emergency button is a call that is instantly transmitted to the central monitoring station. From there, the information is relayed to the nearest police response unit. This often saves lives or prevents a crime from occurring before it is completed,” explains Arkadiy Shakhamatov, the head of the Security Police Department in Kyiv.
According to police spokesperson Captain Anastasia Ivanova, these buttons are being installed not only in crowded areas but also near pharmacies, hospitals, and residential neighborhoods:
“It is crucial for everyone to know: assistance is just a button press away.”
The buttons are connected to a backup power source, ensuring they remain operational even during power outages. Anyone who feels threatened can use them.
