The military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine uncovered another attempt by the Russian Federation to obtain crucial information about Ukrainian defense in frontline areas.
During a special operation in Sumy, an FSB agent was arrested for spying on Ukrainian troops engaged in combat.
The individual aimed to identify the locations of electronic warfare systems, fortified areas, artillery positions, and defense force movement routes in the Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
The investigation revealed that the suspect is a 22-year-old unemployed resident of Sumy, who, in search of «easy money», came under the influence of an employee of the «FSB Administration for the Republic of Crimea» through Telegram channels.
Under the agent's instructions, he initially operated in the Konotop district of Sumy.
Among other activities, he installed a hidden camera near a local highway to provide remote access to the occupiers.
This device was intended to allow the enemy to monitor airstrikes on defense columns in real-time.
Later, the FSB sent its accomplice to the Dnipropetrovsk region, where he continued spying on the movements of Ukrainian troops.
SBU officers thwarted the occupiers' plans and detained their collaborator.
During searches, they seized smartphones with multiple SIM cards that he used for covert communications with the FSB.
The investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement or placement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations under Ukrainian law during a state of war).
The perpetrator is currently in custody without the possibility of bail and faces up to 12 years in prison.
Comprehensive measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions under the procedural guidance of the Sumy regional prosecutor's office.
