The Security Service of Ukraine has arrested an agent of the Russian GRU who was assisting the aggressor in gathering intelligence on Ukrainian forces in Pokrovsk. Counterintelligence has uncovered another Russian agent in the Donetsk region. This individual was tracking the positions of Ukrainian troops in the most active area of the front.

According to the investigation, the Russian military intelligence (GRU) recruited a local resident, a 34-year-old electrician from Myrnohrad, who was waiting for the complete occupation of the region. He was recruited through a classmate currently fighting against Ukrainian forces. The main task of the agent was to patrol the Pokrovsk area and photograph the positions of Ukrainian troops.

The enemy was particularly interested in the coordinates of fortifications, command posts, and ammunition depots. Upon returning home, the agent compiled a report for the occupiers based on the collected information.

The SBU timely uncovered this agent, documenting his connections with the Russian GRU, and apprehended him. Simultaneously, counterintelligence secured the positions of defenders in Pokrovsk. During the searches, a phone was found with an anonymous chat where he coordinated his actions with the enemy.

Investigators informed him of suspicion of treason under wartime conditions. The perpetrator is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment.
