The Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended a Russian intelligence agent within the State Special Transport Service.
Counterintelligence of the SBU revealed another case of infiltration by Russian intelligence into the Ukrainian armed forces. In Dnipropetrovsk region, a conscripted member of the Defense Ministry's combat brigade was detained for working with the enemy. The arrest occurred during basic military training.
The investigation established that the serviceman was recruited by the occupiers immediately after mobilization. He came under the radar of Russian intelligence due to his pro-Russian comments on social media. The agent's main task was to coordinate Russian aerial strikes against Ukrainian forces in the Dnipropetrovsk region. It has been documented that he provided geolocations of the military unit where he was undergoing training. Following this, the agent began collecting coordinates of adjacent formations targeted for missile strikes.
The SBU's counterintelligence successfully identified the spy, documented his contacts with Russian intelligence, and made the arrest. During the operation, measures were taken to secure the locations of Ukrainian forces in the area of enemy reconnaissance activity. Evidence of the suspect's collaboration with the enemy was found on his phone during a search.
SBU investigators in the Dnipropetrovsk region have charged him under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason in wartime).
The perpetrator is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment and confiscation of property. The operation was carried out under the procedural guidance of the Dnipro Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector.
