SBU Arrests Belarusian Spy at Ukraine's Northern Border

The Security Service of Ukraine successfully neutralized a Belarusian KGB agent operating at the northern border. The counterintelligence unit of the SBU thwarted the plans of Belarusian intelligence to gather sensitive information regarding Ukraine's defense.

As a result of proactive measures in the Volyn region, a 24-year-old unemployed man was arrested while seeking «easy money» through Telegram. The agent agreed to carry out tasks for the Belarusian operatives, including monitoring checkpoints and fortifications of the Ukrainian military. He also attempted to identify the movements of military trains across local railways, surveying the area and marking defensive structures on maps.

> SBU operatives quickly detected the agent, documented his crimes, and arrested him at his residence. A phone containing an anonymous chat used for communication with Belarusian intelligence was confiscated. The identity of his handler has already been established by SBU counterintelligence. During the operation, the logistical routes and bases of Ukrainian defenders were secured. Based on the evidence collected, the agent was charged under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed in a state of war). The perpetrator is in custody and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.

The operation was conducted by SBU employees in the Volyn region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
