Revamping the "Ukrposhta" Mobile App

The state postal operator "Ukrposhta" is preparing to launch an updated mobile app with new functionalities, aimed to be released by the end of June this year.

In an interview with Forbes Ukraine, CEO Igor Smilyansky stated that the new application is a priority for the company in 2025.

"We plan to introduce the app by the end of the first half of the year. It will not only track parcels — we will also implement features for customs interaction, display estimated delivery dates, allow document verification, and provide access to shipment and payment history," he noted.

The launch of the new "Ukrposhta" app was initially scheduled for 2024, but was postponed for various reasons. The old app has low ratings in the App Store and Google Play Market, with one of its major issues being the lack of notifications about parcel status. It is expected that the new version will allow the redirecting of parcels to another office, which currently can only be done via phone or at postal branches.

Moreover, Igor Smilyansky reported that approximately 1 billion UAH was invested in automation in 2024. "This amount includes guarantees for five years. All funding is our own," he added.

According to him, now over 90% of parcels arrive on time. "I measure the effect of automation through Facebook and TikTok. Previously, every post of mine had dozens, if not hundreds, of comments about how poorly "Ukrposhta" delivered. In the last two months — almost none. This is the most honest indicator for me, as it cannot be faked. We launched full automation, and are now refining the IT system so that clients see the estimated delivery date when sending their parcels," Igor Smilyansky concluded.

Recall that in February 2025, "Ukrposhta" fully automated the sorting of parcels. In January 2025, the government transferred shares of the First Investment Bank, previously owned by Russian oligarchs, to the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, which will subsequently transfer them to "Ukrposhta". This will enable the postal operator to establish its own banking institution. Earlier, Igor Smilyansky stated that after creating its own bank, "Ukrposhta"'s capitalization would increase, allowing it to build an Amazon-like service in the Ukrainian context. Additionally, it's worth noting that last year, "Ukrposhta" reported a revenue of 12.98 billion UAH, which is an 8% increase compared to nearly 12 billion in 2023. However, considering the annual inflation rate of 14.6%, the real growth turned into a loss — by the end of 2024, the loss reached 387 million UAH.
