Clarifications from the Ministry of Education on School Year Changes

Recently, media and social networks have circulated information suggesting that the government is set to shorten school holidays for students in 2025 by one month.

However, the Ministry of Education has labeled these reports as "false" and clarified that the length of the academic year is determined individually by each school.

The ministry acknowledged that according to a Cabinet resolution, the school year will start on September 2, 2024, and end on June 30, 2025. Nevertheless, these dates are merely maximum limits, not mandatory deadlines for all schools.

"The dates, as well as the structure of the academic year and holiday schedules, are determined by the schools themselves, not the government. This is not a new policy; such flexibility has been enshrined in existing legislation for many years, even prior to the full-scale war," the ministry added.

This means that schools have the autonomy to decide when to conclude the academic year for their students.

Additionally, the pedagogical council takes into account:

  • the overall workload;
  • the security situation in the region;
  • the individual needs of students;
  • the readiness of teachers.
