OpenAI has launched a counter lawsuit against Elon Musk, alleging that he is deliberately slowing down the company’s development for his own benefit.
"Musk's ongoing actions against us are nothing but bad faith tactics aimed at stalling OpenAI's growth and seizing control over leading innovations in the AI field for personal gain," the lawsuit states.
In 2024, Musk approached the court with a request to prevent OpenAI from transitioning to a commercial model. His objective was to force the company to "return to its mission of developing AI for the benefit of humanity." The court rejected Musk's request for an injunction but allowed for expedited consideration of the case.
Subsequently, Musk made an offer to acquire OpenAI for $97.4 billion, which was unanimously rejected by the OpenAI board.
"Musk's relentless attacks on OpenAI, culminating in a recent false acquisition proposal, are intended to undermine OpenAI's future and must cease. He should be prohibited from further unlawful and unfair actions and held accountable for the damage he has already caused," OpenAI asserts in its lawsuit.
