Ukraine has introduced a new feature in the "Diya" app that enables users to check for the availability of the energy-independent xPON network.

According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, this map will help assess the actual state of internet connectivity and plan activities during power outages.

Users will be able to quickly find out:

• which xPON providers service their address;
• the availability of xPON technology that provides internet access without electricity;
• the duration of network operation during outages (e.g., 4, 8, or 72 hours).

"Users will be able to leave feedback about providers, fostering healthy competition in the market. Companies will be motivated to improve their services, and consumers will know if promises are kept". — stated in the release.

The Ministry also emphasized that the map will show the coverage of energy-independent internet across Ukraine. "We will be able to identify "white spots" and collaborate with providers to eliminate them, which is especially important for border areas where stable connectivity is crucial". — they added.

According to the Ministry, in the fall of 2025, demand for xPON increased in various regions from 45% to 77%. Currently, 52% of subscribers use this technology, compared to just 30% in 2021. The leaders in coverage (over 70%) are Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Volyn regions.

It is worth noting that xPON (Passive Optical Network) is a technology that allows users to stay online without electricity for up to 72 hours. The optical cable connects directly to the apartment, and there is no equipment along the way that requires electricity. The main requirement is to connect your router and ONU terminal to power for internet access.
