Microsoft has officially introduced Mixed Reality Link, a system that turns Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets into monitors for Windows 11. Previously, this feature was available only to beta testers, but it is now gradually rolling out to all users.
Mixed Reality Link creates a virtual workspace where users can see multiple high-quality displays that simulate monitors. To get started, users must install the Mixed Reality Link client on a Windows 11 computer and connect their Meta Quest headset.
The service also supports Microsoft’s cloud solutions, including Windows 365 Cloud PC, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Dev Box. This allows users to access a virtual desktop even without a powerful local computer, offloading computations to the cloud.
The functionality is reminiscent of Apple Vision Pro, but at a significantly lower cost. The base Meta Quest 3S headset retails for about $300, while the Vision Pro starts at $3,500.
Meta is actively investing in the AR/VR space, recently unveiling new smart glasses with an integrated Ray-Ban Display, as well as the next generation of Ray-Ban Meta.
