The Ukrainian Emergency Services, in collaboration with GSC Game World, have launched a new initiative focused on mine safety, utilizing the immersive world of the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
In the video produced, the main character Skif illustrates crucial safety guidelines:
- Do not approach suspicious objects
- Avoid touching them
- Retrace your steps
- Call 101
According to the Emergency Services, approximately 23% of Ukraine's territory remains dangerous due to mines and unexploded ordnance, and the demining process will take decades. Despite awareness of the risks, over half of teenagers act recklessly, particularly boys aged 14–17 who tend to underestimate the dangers.
To convey this important message in an understandable way, the Emergency Services, together with GSC Game World, integrated the theme of mine threats into a familiar virtual environment for gamers. Developers state that the initiative aims to save lives by replacing dry lectures with an emotional experience.
