Microsoft has announced the integration of the latest GPT-5 model from OpenAI into its assistant Copilot, which is utilized in Microsoft 365, GitHub, Azure AI Foundry, and mobile applications. The update is now available to users.

Copilot has introduced a new Smart Mode that automatically selects the optimal model based on the complexity of the query. This allows for a balance between response speed and depth of information processing.

In Microsoft 365, Copilot has improved contextual understanding, the ability to maintain long conversations, and response accuracy. GitHub Copilot with GPT-5 is available via chatbot, VS Code, and mobile app for paid users, while organizations can access it through policy settings.

In Azure AI Foundry, the new model is accessible via API with automatic setting selection, support for multimodal scenarios, and an extensive context. For regular Copilot users, GPT-5 is already available for free.
