Google has decided to maintain support for all shortened goo.gl URLs created through the Google URL Shortener service, contrary to earlier announcements.
On August 1, the company revealed that the links will remain active and function as before, without any notice of impending deactivation. Google emphasized that many of these links are embedded in various documents, videos, and posts, thus the decision was made considering user feedback.
Last July, the company announced plans to deactivate all goo.gl links by August 25, 2025, citing a decrease in their activity. According to the company, over 99% of these URLs had no clicks recently.
However, Google has now revised its plans: only those links that have shown no activity since the end of 2024 will be deactivated. Links that still receive clicks will remain active.
