OpenAI Considers New Feature for Third-Party Applications

OpenAI is evaluating (via TechCrunch) the potential for integrating a "Log in with ChatGPT" feature into external applications, which could significantly enhance its footprint in the digital services arena.

Currently, OpenAI is assessing developer interest in this feature, which will enable users to log into various services using their ChatGPT account. This could provide a competitive alternative to similar offerings from Apple, Google, and Microsoft, which already facilitate quick access to third-party apps.

ChatGPT is rapidly gaining traction and boasts approximately 600 million active users per month. OpenAI aims to leverage this success to expand its reach in online shopping, social networks, and other services.

Previously, the company launched a beta version of the ChatGPT login feature for developers in Codex CLI – an AI-based programming tool. Developers can connect their ChatGPT Free, Plus, or Pro accounts to the API. Plus and Pro tier users were offered bonuses in the form of API credits.

Currently, the company is actively gathering data on potential partners, querying developers about their audience size and existing monetization models. It remains unclear when the feature will be available to the general public.
