OpenAI launches a new streamlined version of the deep research feature in ChatGPT. This version is available to all users for free, although it comes with usage limits.

For paying users, the simplified version will automatically activate once the usage limit of the full Deep Research feature is reached. "Responses may be shorter, but they will retain the same depth and quality you are accustomed to," says OpenAI.

This tool operates on the o4-mini model — a simplified version of the larger o4 model, which enables lower processing costs. This allows OpenAI to increase the usage limits.
