An extraordinary tale of spirit and motivation – 25-year-old Ukrainian powerlifter Dmytro Polovych, who lives with a severe form of cerebral palsy, has shown that there are no limits.
On Sunday, November 2nd, during the World Powerlifting Championship in Budapest, he achieved a stunning victory and set a world record in deadlifting for athletes with CP.
Dmytro became the first person in his category to lift 105 kilograms. His attempt stirred immense emotions in the hall, and the video of his record quickly spread across social media, garnering thousands of likes and comments.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Dmytro expressed his gratitude: "This story would not be possible without you. I want to thank everyone who believed in me, supported me, and cheered me on. Your energy was felt even from a distance! I want to give special thanks to my coaches – Anna Kurkurina and Tetiana Fuzi, who walked this path with me side by side! And a huge thank you to everyone who supported my trip financially. Without you, I would not have been able to stand on that platform. This victory – is as much yours as it is mine! We did it together!"
Let us remember that not long ago, at the Ukrainian Grappling Championship for children aged 12-13 in Khmelnytskyi, there was a very touching moment when a boy displayed true sportsmanship by giving up his victory to an injured opponent.
