Ukrainian Chess Teams Kick Off European Championship 2025

The Ukrainian chess teams, both male and female, have officially commenced their participation in the European Championship 2025. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Chess Federation.

In their opening match, the men's team faced Georgia-2, the host nation of the tournament taking place in Batumi.

Victories by Igor Kovalchuk and Igor Samunenko turned the tide in the match, resulting in an overall win, while Andriy Volokitin drew his game and Anton Korobov unexpectedly lost to the Georgian team's leader, Gigi Kuparadze.

The women's team of Ukraine drew with Austria. The "Blue and Yellows" were close to victory, but 16-year-old debutant Bozhena Piddubna lost to Emilia Diak-Sala.
