Over the course of ten days, the World Games 2025 will be held in Chengdu, China — an international competition in non-Olympic sports featuring the world's top athletes.
The Ukrainian national team comprises 108 athletes competing in 21 sports. Among them are 30 athletes from the capital, who will participate in 12 disciplines, as reported by the Department of Youth and Sports of the Kyiv City State Administration.
Among the representatives from Kyiv are champions and debutants. The athletes will compete in the following sports:
- Sport Acrobatics: Yevfrosyniya Kryvytska, Ivan Labunets, Ivan Horlach, Sofroniy Davidenko
- Muay Thai: Anastasia Mykhailenko
- Squash: Dmytro Shcherbakov, Alina Bushma
- Trampoline: Andriy Sokolov
- Water Skiing: Volodymyr Chuba, Sofiya Sokolova
- Sambo: Oleksandr Voropaiev
- Underwater Sports: Anastasia Makarenko and others
- Kickboxing: Daryna Ivanova
- Powerlifting: Larysa Solovyova
- Dragon Boat Racing: Yuriy Bardashevskyi and others
- Breaking: Oleg Kuznetsov
- Canoeing: Maksym Redko
“The World Games are an opportunity to showcase achievements on an international level, demonstrating the will to win and skill in non-Olympic sports,” the Department stated.
The World Games have been held since 1981 every four years under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. This year, from August 7 to 18, the event will gather about 3,500 participants from over 100 countries, featuring 34 sports and 60 disciplines, with 256 medal sets up for grabs.
In 2022, at the World Games in Birmingham (USA), Ukraine won 45 medals, including 16 gold, placing third overall. In total, Ukrainians have earned 128 medals in the history of these competitions, ranking ninth in the all-time medal table.
