Renowned boxer Vasyl Lomachenko has announced his retirement from the sport.
He made this announcement on his official Facebook page.
Lomachenko expressed his gratitude to God, his family, and coach, as well as his team, for their support throughout his career. However, notably, he did not mention Ukraine or its fans in his message.
Interestingly, his message to fans was written in Russian.
"Every boxer has a day when they must hang up their gloves. That day has come for me," he stated.
Lomachenko's last fight was against George Kambosos, where he claimed the IBF lightweight title. He has not stepped into the ring since then.
Media reports have indicated that he has been facing health issues, particularly a back injury.
Recently, there was active discussion about his potential return to the ring, with several boxers like Keyshawn Davis and Shakur Stevenson expressing interest in a fight with him.
Lomachenko has found himself in several controversial situations, including a recent meeting with the UOC-MP metropolitan and investing in a Russian company.
