22-year-old Ukrainian biathlete Vitaliy Mandzyn is on the list of candidates for the title of "rookie of the season".
This was reported by the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
Other nominees include Norwegians Martin Uldal (23 years) and Isak Frey (21 years), as well as German biathlete Danilo Ritmueller (25 years).
In the 2024/25 season, Mandzyn finished in 31st place overall in the World Cup standings.
His best result in individual races was 4th place in the short individual race at the first stage of the World Cup in Kontiolahti, Finland.
At the World Cup stage in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, Mandzyn won a bronze medal as part of the relay team.
This international season was the first full one for the athlete from Ternopil, but he lost the battle for the title of best young biathlete to Campbell Wright from the USA.
