The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine has thwarted yet another attempt by Russian aggressors to obtain coordinates for missile strikes on industrial facilities in Zaporizhzhia. According to the case materials, the enemy was targeting production facilities and electrical substations that supply energy to factories in the frontline city.
To adjust airstrikes, the Russian military intelligence (commonly known as GRU) recruited a former employee of the local Pension Fund. She came under the enemy's radar due to her anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels. To fulfill enemy objectives, the agent scouted the area, trying to identify industrial and energy facilities. Additionally, she discreetly solicited intelligence data from a local engineer at one of the machinery enterprises.
The investigation established that the suspect coordinated her actions with a Russian GRU officer through an anonymous chat in a messenger app. SBU counterintelligence operatives intercepted the perpetrator in time, documented her contacts with the supervisor, and apprehended her while she was photographing the perimeter of an energy facility. During the incident, a smartphone was seized from her, containing Google Maps marked with potential targets for the occupants.
SBU investigators filed charges against the agent under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
The perpetrator is currently in custody without the right to bail. She faces life imprisonment with property confiscation. Preemptive actions were conducted by SBU employees in the Rivne region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
